Cairns Private Hospital, Ramsay Surgical Centre Cairns specialist Montri Gururatsakul

Dr Montri Gururatsakul

MD, PhD (Australia), FRACP (Australia) Gastroenterologist

Dr Montri joined Cairns Gastroenterology in 2019 but was derailed slightly by the pandemic and subsequently went back to Bangkok to start up an Interventional Gastroenterology unit in a large new teaching hospital for the last 3 years. Having conquered that challenge, Dr “Montri” has heeded the irresistible call of the Far North to return to Cairns in 2023 with his family to enjoy the incomparable lifestyle we all take for granted. Dr Montri will be the resident specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Cairns Hospital and has resumed part-time private practice (administrated by Cairns Gastroenterology) at Cairns Private Hospital and Ramsay Surgical Centre Cairns.

Dr Montri completed his tour of duty as an intern in Tasmania before earning his PhD in Gastrointestinal motility and other esoteric conundrums. He went on to train in internal medicine in various large Queensland metropolitan hospitals. He trained as a first year Gastroenterology advanced registrar in Cairns, in the process picking up the ‘Cairns Hospital Registrar of the Year Award 2015’. He finished his advanced training at the PA hospital in Brisbane and Royal North Shore in Sydney. He spent some time completing an interventional endoscopy Fellowship in ERCP and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) in Vancouver, Canada.
