Cairns Private Hospital has just opened its new Cath Lab that features a laser guided-x ray and robotic arm. The new GE Discovery IGS 730 hybrid vascular laboratory uses advanced imagery and allows for robotic manoeuvrability. It offers clinicians a new way of treating cardiac and vascular patients using minimally invasive techniques. Cairns Private Hospital has performed more than 12,000 procedures over the past 20 years including angiograms, stents, pacemakers and implanting defibrillators. The new laboratory will expand on that range of services and allow clinicians to perform other advanced procedures previously not offered in the region including electrophysiology and structural heart repairs. The new service will mean vascular and aortic procedures can be done faster and more safely for patients, making patient stays more comfortable.

It is widely accepted as an advanced form of minimally invasive surgery resulting in a faster recovery allowing patients to return to work and their regular daily activities more quickly, whilst experiencing reduced pain and an improved cosmetic result due to small incisions resulting in less scarring.
