Dr Gamal Mousa obtained his initial surgical and endoscopic training after achieving his medical qualifications in the UK. He moved to Australia in 1979 and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1986 after completing his advanced surgical and endoscopic training at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Dr Mousa practiced in Brisbane and Darwin for 10 years before he and his wife Margaret and their four children moved to settle in Cairns in 1995. In addition to his surgical and endoscopic private practice, Dr Mousa has had a range of professional appointments over the past twenty years, including being a visiting surgeon at Cairns Hospital, visiting surgeon to Breast Screening Queensland, senior lecturer at JCU and surgical trainer, and clinical examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Mousa’s interests are extensive and include breast and colorectal surgery.  His advanced training in gastroenterological endoscopic procedures was under the supervision of leading international experts in Australia and at St Mark’s Hospital in London. He also studied under Professor Cellier in Paris and Professor Yamamoto in Japan. Dr Mousa is a fully credentialed member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA), General Surgeons Australia and the breast section of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Mousa’s practice covers all aspects of laparoscopic and open general surgery and he has interests in colorectal, gallbladder, hernias and melanoma surgeryas well as breast cancer surgical management.

Capsule Pill Cam Endoscopy and Double Balloon Enteroscopy were introduced to Cairns by Dr Mousa over the last ten years, which completed his comprehensive range of endoscopic and colorectal surgical services. This allows him to provide an efficient continuation of management for his patients referred for bowel screening, management of bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel conditions, ano-rectal conditions, PR bleeding, iron deficiency, anaemia and others.

Dr Mousa established the Cairns Private Specialist Clinic where his rooms are located.

He enjoys walking, listening to classical music, reading and travels widely. He is a keen cheese maker, which he says keeps him calm.
