Dr Wijayanayaka is a General Surgeon with interests in Bariatrics, residing in Cairns. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Auckland. Following internship, he was selected for training under the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
After completing General Surgery training, he has undertaken several sub-specialist fellowships in New Zealand and Australia with a focus on upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. He completed one of Australia’s only high-volume exclusive bariatric surgery fellowships, under the supervision of Dr George Hopkins at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2022.
Dr Wijayanayaka is a Member of the Australian & New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS) and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).

- One anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB)
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB)
- Gastric band removal
- Revisional bariatric surgery
