Dr Azhar Munas is originally from Sydney and moved to Cairns in January 2016 having done his final years of haematology advanced training at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
Azhar is an excellent communicator and is a member of many international haematology bodies including the American Society of Haematology, the European Haematology Association, the International Society of Blood Transfusion and the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is very active in teaching at Cairns Hospital and is keen to establish heamatology research in Far North Queensland.
Dr Munas specialises in services for those with blood and bone marrow disorders, as well as the treatment of malignant conditions such as myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloma, lymphoma and leukaemia. Azhar also sees patients with blood and bone marrow disorders such as anaemia, iron deficiency and iron overload, clotting disorders and bleeding disorders.
Dr Munas is a consultant haematologist at Cairns Hospital and also sees patients privately. Patients can be seen promptly without delay.
