Cairns Private Hospital Orthopaedic Unit is a 28 bed Unit, providing care for patients with a variety of medical issues within the musculoskeletal system, particularly spine, joints and muscles.
Our surgeons perform joint replacement surgeries including hip, knee and shoulder. Other orthopaedic interventions include treatment of sport injuries and orthopaedic trauma.
Our Orthopaedic ward is staffed by experienced qualified nurses. Their compassionate care is combined with extensive orthopaedic experience. Our Orthopaedic unit is supported by a multidisciplinary team, including physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Orthopaedic Unit staff members share information and have open communication with patients, families and carers to optimise your health care. Information that would be helpful to us from you and your carers includes
- Medication and alternative therapy you maybe taking
- Your care needs and preferences
- Your primary contact person – especially when a family has many members
As a patient you will find that your day will include a visit by your doctor (usually between 7am-9am), Physiotherapy, handover of your care between staff and rehabilitation and discharge planning.
Family and significant people are involved in your care at all times, but especially during handover of your care and daily rounding.
The ward is fully equipped with the latest mobility aids and equipment to assist with mobilisation and rehabilitation, including crutches, four wheel walkers, pick up frames and rollator frames.
Pre-operative patient education
You will attend the pre admission clinic and receive information about your stay.
Part of admission is also planning for discharge. During your stay doctors, nurses and allied health providers, such as physiotherapists, will answer your questions and talk to you about any concerns regarding leaving hospital. The ward has two dedicated discharge planners who will be able to assist you to ensure you have appropriate services or aids for discharge.
The ward is located via entrance 1 at level 2.
