Dr Sam Hillier

Dr Sam Hillier works at Cairns Private Hospital, in addition to consulting at his private rooms (Heartrx Cardiology). 

Originally from the UK, Sam graduated in medicine from Oxford University in 2003, where he also obtained a Masters Degree, undertaking research in the Molecular Basis of Atherosclerosis.  After completing his internship in the UK, Sam moved to Australia, where he completed his specialist training.  Most of his pre-FRACP clinical training was in regional Queensland, including at the Cairns Hospital and regional outreach clinics. 

Sam is a Specialist Cardiologist, with post-fellowship advanced training cardiac imaging and advanced echocardiolography. He completed his general and sub-specialty cardiology training at The Royal Brisbane and The Prince Charles Hospitals, and after obtaining his FRACP in Cardiology, completed a Fellowship year in Advanced Echocardiography at The Prince Charles Hospital. His interests are in the management of acute and chronic heart failure, and valvular heart disease, as well as the performance of transoesophageal and exercise stress echocardiography, and cardiac CT.  Dr Hillier has a research interest in three-dimensional echocardiography, and has published widely on the topic. He has presented research at local, national, and international meetings, and has contributed towards an American Society of Echocardiography book.
