Dr Akhilesh Tiwari is a Specialist Anaesthetist with an interest in pain medicine. He received his initial training in India before moving to National University Hospital Singapore to work as a clinical fellow in Anaesthesia and Chronic pain. He then moved to Canada and worked at hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto (Toronto Western Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital, Women’s Children Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital) for three years. He received further training in using ultrasound for nerve blocks and pain medicine. He joined Townsville University Hospital in 2016, where he obtained his specialist qualification in chronic pain (FFPMANZCA).
Dr Tiwari has participated in numerous research, which have been presented at various medical conferences and published in multiple peer-reviewed Indexed journals.
He is currently working as a Specialist Anaesthetist, with an interest in pain medicine at the Townsville University hospital. He also consults from Townsville (Livewell pain management clinic) and Gold Coast (Precision brain, spine and pain clinic).
Dr Tiwari is confident in managing all aspects and types of chronic pain. He is competent in advanced pain interventions like nerve blocks, epidural injections, radiofrequency ablations, and other advanced neuromodulation techniques like spinal cord stimulators.
He works closely with the patients and General Practitioners to ensure that the formulated plans are initiated promptly.
Dr Tiwari’s interests are:
- Interventional Techniques for low back pain and chronic hip, knee, and shoulder pain, focusing on neuromodulation and spinal cord stimulators.
- Chronic post-surgical pain.
- Role of Ultrasound as a point of care practice in pain medicine as a diagnostic and therapeutic modality.
Outside work, he is an avid traveller and enjoys basketball, cricket, table tennis, cycling, and spending time with his wife Priya and kids Anshi and Advik.
